Rashguards – what you need to know
A rashguard is close-fitting functional clothing made of stretchy, quick-drying material. It protects the skin from mat friction and abrasions, reduces the risk of transmitting skin infections on the mat, and ensures better blood circulation to the muscles through compression. Whether wrestling, BJJ, MMA, or grappling – a good rashguard is part of every martial artist's basic equipment.
Short sleeve or long sleeve – what suits you?
Short-sleeve rashguards offer more freedom of movement in the shoulders and are particularly popular in summer or during intense training sessions. Long-sleeve rashguards protect the entire arms from mat friction and are preferred especially in BJJ and grappling, where there is a lot of ground contact. Many athletes use both variants – depending on training and personal preference.

Progress Rashguards
Progress is an emerging martial arts brand that is gaining recognition especially in the European BJJ scene. Progress rashguards combine functional design with a modern look – ideal for athletes who want a clear style on and off the mat.
Rashguards for Wrestling and Grappling
In wrestling, the rashguard is often worn under the singlet – it prevents friction and provides additional support. For no-gi grappling sessions, it is indispensable. Combine your rashguard with matching fight shorts or wrestling shoes for a complete setup.
Rashguards for BJJ and MMA
In no-gi BJJ and MMA training, the rashguard is standard. It replaces the gi top, protects the skin, and ensures that the opponent doesn't get an unwanted fabric grip. Long-sleeve models are particularly common in BJJ, as they offer maximum skin protection.

Frequently Asked Questions about Rashguards
What is the difference between a rashguard and a compression shirt?
Rashguards are specially designed for martial arts – with flat seams that don't create friction points, and materials that quickly wick away sweat. Regular compression shirts are often optimized for other sports and are less able to withstand intense grappling training.
Do I have to wear a rashguard under my wrestling singlet?
In competition, it's not mandatory, but many athletes wear a short-sleeve rashguard underneath for added comfort and protection. In training, it's a matter of personal preference.
Which size should I choose?
Rashguards should fit snugly – if in doubt, choose one size smaller than your regular sportswear. If you have questions about sizing, we're happy to help via WhatsApp.
Are Manto and Progress rashguards also suitable for beginners?
Yes. Both brands offer models for all levels. Beginners who are still unsure often start with our own brand – experienced athletes frequently opt for Manto or Progress.
